A massive fire broke out in the southwestern city of Bushehr near Iran's only functioning nuclear power plant, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported on Saturday.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, according to Iranian media reports. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported that the fire was “intentional,” but did not provide further details.
Footage circulating online shows a wall of fire raging near the port, in the immediate vicinity of a road and buildings. The fire broke out at a swampy area located on the premises of a local naval base, Iranian media reports suggested.
The fire raged overnight after another fire made headlines on the other side of the country at a chemical plant in Qasvin, according to Iranian media.
The inferno was reported four weeks after a blackout hit Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility.
Last July, the city of Bushehr saw another large fire break out at the Delvar Shipyard.
Iran has been witnessing dozens of mysterious fires and explosions across the country since mid-2020, many of which have taken place near nuclear facilities.
