Zohran Mamdani, New York City’s socialist mayor, will in no way stop Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from doing its job, border czar Tom Homan said on Sunday.

In an interview on Fox News, Homan said of Mamdani: “Well he has his opinion but he’s not gonna stop ICE from doing their job. What he should do is go talk to the parents of Laken Riley. That alien that killed her was arrested in New York City. If it a wasn’t sanctuary city, he would have been handed over to us, be locked up, probably deported. So go talk to her family. And he talked about how he doesn’t want to assist in civil immigration enforcement, okay, so why do you lock us out of Rikers Island? That’s all criminals. He just doesn’t want immigration law enforced.”
Homan added: “And he’s damn right, every illegal alien in this nation that is here ilegally, that’s crossed the border illegally, which is a crime, will be deported. That’s called the rule of law. If he doesn’t like it, call your members of Congress to change law. But he’s right. President Trump is sitting in the Oval Office today because of his promise to secure the border, the most secure border in the history of this nation/ He promised mass deportations, which we are doing.”
ICE arrests have surged in July, averaging more than 1,400 per day—the highest pace of the second Trump administration.
The July spike follows a record-breaking June that saw roughly 39,500 arrests.
“We’re turning up the heat on the streets,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.
“We’re out there working harder than we ever have because we’ve empowered law enforcement to do their jobs,” Mullin said. “What I’m trying to do is remove us from the headlines every single day.”
DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis called on leftist politicians and media outlets to “turn down the temperature” of their rhetoric towards ICE, which she said is “fueling vehicle attacks” against agents.
