Trump’s letter to ‘unselect’ committee pre-empts subpoena

The Select Committee voted unanimously on Thursday to subpoena former President Donald Trump.
Analysis by WorldTribune Staff, October 16, 2022

At the conclusion of his detailed letter slamming the House Select Committee on Jan. 6, former President Donald Trump noted: "Election Day is coming."

Such is the reasoning behind the nakedly partisan committee's decision to hold yet another one of its made-for-TV hearings, according to the many critics who like Trump can only be heard on alternative media platforms.  The ostensible  reason for today's media event was to announce it was issuing a subpoena for Trump to testify.

“It is our obligation to seek Donald Trump’s testimony,” said committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson before Thursday's unanimous panel vote to subpoena Trump.

In an Oct. 13 letter to Thompson, Trump blasted "radical Left Democrats" for their "show trial" and attached media-censored photos of the massive crowds at the Jan. 6, 2021 demonstration as well as detailed state-by-state evidence of fraud in the 2020 presidential election in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

His full letter can be seen here.

Rep. Liz Cheney, who endured a humiliating defeat in the Wyoming primary, appeared to accuse Trump of organizing the Jan. 6, 2021 protests, referring to him as the “central player” of the day’s events.

"While such a remark may raise eyebrows, CNBC notes that it came after Thompson 'clarified in his opening statement that Thursday’s presentation is technically not a hearing,' but a 'formal committee business meeting' that just happened to be broadcast on live television," Tom Pappert noted in an Oct. 13 analysis for Valiant News.

"The committee, whose members are all partisan anti-Trump members of Congress, have repeatedly been accused of using taxpayer dollars to create what amounts to propaganda against the former president," Pappert added. "This latest move may strike voters as a nakedly political attempt to force Americans to relive the drama of January 6 only weeks and days before the next election, a move Beltway pollsters have previously said should help solidify Democrats’ support."

In his Oct. 13 letter to the committee, Trump noted:

"The same group of Radical Left Democrats who utilized their Majority position in Congress to create the fiction of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, the $48 Million Mueller Report (which ended in No Collusion!), Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the atrocious and illegal Spying on my Campaign, and so much more, are the people who created this Committee of highly partisan political Hacks and Thugs whose sole function is to destroy the lives of many hard-working American Patriots, whose records in life have been unblemished until this point of attempted ruination. The double standard of the Unselects between what has taken place on the “RIGHT,” and what has taken place with Radical Left, lawless groups such as Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and others, is startling and will never be acceptable, even to those who will be writing the history of what you have done to America.

"This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment, and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a Charade and Witch Hunt, and despite strong and powerful requests, you have not spent even a short moment on examining the massive Election Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election, and have targeted only those who were, as concerned American Citizens, protesting the Fraud itself. Those who committed the Fraud, thereby having created the Crime of the Century, go unblemished and untouched, but those who fought the Crime have suffered a fate that was unthinkable just a short time ago. We have a two-tier system of Justice in the United States that cannot be allowed to continue."

Meanwhile, Just the News noted that Thursday's hearing of the Select Committee, purported to be its last, undercut the key Democrat talking point that the committee did not need to investigate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi because she wasn't involved in Capitol security on Jan. 6, 2021.

Video played during Thursday's hearing "showed Pelosi firmly in charge of a security apparatus she claimed didn't report to her," John Solomon of Just the News noted.

"On January 6th, the Speaker, a target of an assassination attempt that day, was no more in charge of Capitol security than Mitch McConnell was," a spokesperson for Pelosi told FactCheck.org in July of last year. "This is a clear attempt to whitewash what happened on January 6th and divert blame. The Speaker believes security officials should make security decisions."

Pelosi had proclaimed in February 2021: "I have no power over the Capitol Police. Does anybody not know that?"

The committee on Thursday showed compelling video of Pelosi commanding the security apparatus of the U.S. Capitol complex on Jan. 6, 2021. The video shows Pelosi directing resources, calling the Pentagon and soliciting police from neighboring Virginia.

"The footage clearly contradicts Pelosi's earlier claim she had nothing to do with Capitol security," Solomon noted.

Best selling author and television host Bill O’Reilly said the committee’s work has been so partisan that it won’t have impact on Americans today or history in the future.

“As far as history is concerned, it's nothing. Nobody will remember it,” O’Reilly told Just the News. “It was obviously put into place to try to come up with something to embarrass Donald Trump or ruin Donald Trump. It has failed.”
