The Left has been heavily triggered by President Donald Trump’s renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America.
According to one meme circulating on social media, “Obama and Biden changed names on forts, ships, mountains. They changed noun and pronouns. But Trump changes names TO PROMOTE AMERICA and these same people lose what’s eft of their minds.”
Liberal talk show host Bill Maher slammed the Left’s outrage.
On his HBO show “Real Time” on Friday, Maher said:
“Trump is so mad at Canada, he renamed Lake Ontario ‘Lake America,’ Now I have to buy a new globe again!
“Liberals are very pissed at this. They say you can’t just go around renaming to suit your political agenda. Just ask any Latinx birthing person.”
Meanwhile, Google has updated its maps in the United States to reflect Trump’s change.
In a statement, Google explained its reasoning for doing so:
“The U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has formally changed the name for ‘Lake Ontario’ to ‘Lake America’ in the United States. Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS for the U.S., people using Maps in the U.S. will see ‘Lake America,’ those in Canada will continue to see ‘Lake Ontario,’ and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names. These updates follow our long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary from country to country, and are starting to roll out now.”
Trump has now directed three major geographic renamings since 2025: Gulf of America, Mount McKinley, and most recently Lake America.
The 2025 restoration of Mount McKinley directly reversed President Barack Obama’s 2015 Secretarial Order renaming the peak Denali.
