A biological male who identifies as female was crowned the winner in a New Hampshire Miss America Organization beauty pageant.
Brían Nguyen, the winner in the Miss Greater Derry 2023 pageant, claimed in a social media post to be the first transgender titleholder within the organization.
“In the 100 year history of Miss America, I have officially become the FIRST transgender titleholder within the Miss America Organization,” Nguyen said in an Instagram post.
Along with the crown and title, the 19-year-old Nguyen has also earned a scholarship. The event is held for those between the ages of 17 and 24.
On its website, the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Program said that it has been “providing scholarship opportunities to young women in the greater Derry area since 1987.”
The Miss Greater Derry pageant is also “part of the Miss New Hampshire and Miss America family,” the pageant's website says.
Breitbart's Alana Mastrangelo noted: "Over the past few years, biological males have been increasingly dominating in areas traditionally held by women.
"Last summer, Kataluna Enriquez, a biological male who identifies as a woman, won the title of Miss Nevada USA. Transgender models Valentina Sampaio and Leyna Bloom have both appeared in Sports Illustrated‘s annual Swimsuit Issue."
Recently, a federal court ruled that the Miss United States of America pageant can't be forced to include transgender contestants after a trans complainant filed a lawsuit claiming discrimination.
A rule of the Miss United States of America pageant is that contestants must be "natural-born females" and when the complainant reached out to the pageant and asked if that rule could be changed, the pageant declined.
