Newly released text messages from Anthony Fauci’s Covid-era government issued iPhone show the Covid czar warned there was a risk of first-trimester miscarriage tied to reactions from the Covid shots.
Publicly, Fauci said thousands of vaccinated pregnant women had shown “no red flags.”
The text messages, released by Republican Sens. Ron Johnson and Rand Paul, included a chain which took place between Jan. 25 and 26, 2021, between Fauci, then-CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, and then-Surgeon General Vivek Murthy.
The chain began with Murthy messaging Fauci:
“For pregnant women considering getting the vaccine, are you aware of any data or theoretical reason why vaccinating early vs late in pregnancy would be preferred? And any sense of when there will be more robust data on vaccine risk in pregnant women?” Murthy said he had been telling pregnant women “that there hasn’t been evidence of concerning adverse outcomes in the trials.”
Fauci said he agreed with Walensky, saying “there are no data or theoretical reason to believe that vaccinating early versus later in pregnancy would be preferred.” He said there was a “misperception” that an mRNA “can ‘get into your genes,’ ” adding that, “when the misperception gets extended to an early developing fetus, the anxiety heightens.”
A little after two hours after sending his message, Fauci messaged again, writing:
“I asked around a bit more and another issue came up that you need to be aware of. Since many people have significant cytokines storm and fever after the 2nd dose, this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester.”
Per the Cleveland Clinic, a cytokine storm is when a human’s body releases too many cytokines, proteins in the body’s immune system and drive inflammation, at one time, which can lead to tissue and organ damage.
Walensky said, “definitely a good point, esp after dose two.”
Murthy replied to the two officials:
“This is really helpful, thanks. I’ve been hearing the concern about the mRNA causing mutations in the developing fetus as well. That’s a really good point re the cytokine storm post second dose.”
Fauci replied that “in any vaccine in which data are lacking in pregnant women one must weigh the potential risks against the benefits.” He added that Covid can be “especially” dangerous in pregnancy, and that after the emergency use authorization was issued, over 10,000 pregnant women were vaccinated at that point in time. “No issues have arisen,” said Fauci.
Murthy also said he was “surprised” to see the World Health Organization (WHO) put out a “strong statement on the matter,” saying the statement could be “quite damaging to public confidence among pregnant women.”
In a February 2021 interview, Fauci said that “no red flags” had been raised after around 20,000 pregnant women received the Covid injections.
This was repeated over the next year, with multiple officials saying similarly that no safety concerns had been found in pregnant women.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order directing federal agencies to overhaul the existing childhood vaccine schedule and reduce the number of vaccines recommended for all children.
In a show of support for Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the president said the federal government will recommend 11 “core” vaccines for diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, polio, chickenpox, and whooping cough for all children.
Vaccines for other diseases such as hepatitis b, Covid, and influenza will no longer be recommended for all children.
Trump said the guidance will recommend administering the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine as separate doses at separate visits. Kennedy has for decades questioned whether the cocktails are too potent for young children to process at once without causing harmful side effects.
Trump said that “decades ago” children received fewer vaccines and were “much healthier.”
“And, of course, the high rates of autism did not exist,” Trump added.
National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya told reporters that the NIH is funding “major research teams” to look into the causes of autism.
“Science takes time. It’s very frustrating,” Bhattacharya said. “The main thing we’ve accomplished … is we’ve changed how people and the scientific community thinks about autism. You’ve given them permission to ask the question that otherwise would have been different to answer. If you come to an answer that links autism to some other politically correct things … as a scientist you fear that your career is going to be over.”
Bhattacharya touted the changes in the vaccine recommendations, saying they give parents “a choice” about how to vaccinate their children. He said he believes the measles vaccine is important, but added, “We shouldn’t be keeping kids out of school because (some parents) made different decisions than other parents.”
Advocates of administering the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines at once say splitting up the vaccines could leave children at risk of those diseases for longer. Trump said he has not seen evidence that combining the MMR vaccine is “lethal,” but he has spoken with people who “say that it is that way.”
“I say, ‘Well, let’s say there’s a five percent chance of that, let’s split it up,’ ” he said.
In addition to updating the schedule, the executive order also directs the Department of Justice to bring legal action against states accused of violating parental rights or religious or medical exemptions.
